Crossroads Scholar Completes 2019 Summer Internship at HDG
August 30, 2019
As students of all ages have been returning to school for the Fall, HDG would like to recognize and wish the best of luck to Crossroads Scholar, Tim Green, who recently completed his summer internship at HDG and returned to Seton LaSalle Catholic High School for the start of his senior year!
HDG hosted Tim this past summer from mid-June through mid-August as part of the Crossroads Foundation’s Corporate Sponsorship Program. The Crossroads Program is a meaningful mentoring and internship experience that matches eleventh grade Crossroads scholars with working professionals at sponsoring companies in the greater Pittsburgh area. Corporate sponsors assist in funding a scholar’s junior and senior year scholarship plus provide a constructive summer internship.
It is HDG’s hope that Tim’s internship experience helped him to become more familiar with what it’s like to work in an office environment and prepared him for future employment through the Sponsorship Program’s four pillars: Career Awareness, Workplace Culture, Communication, and Professionalism. During the internship, Tim assisted HDG staff with a number of activities, including Revit learning modules, design sketches, and site observation. He also completed research about licensure and studio culture, which gave him a better understanding of the architectural education process. At the end of the summer, Tim completed precedent research and created his first architectural design board.
“We found that Tim has great critical thinking, artistic, and leadership skills, all of which will be beneficial in his pursuit toward the architectural field. We hope we were a valuable resource in helping Tim prepare for college and his future career path. We wish him luck during the next school year and beyond!,” said Kevin Hayes, AIA, HDG Principal and Founder.
About the Crossroads Foundation:
The Crossroads Foundation’s mission is to provide promising youth who have limited options access to a quality Catholic high school education by nurturing their academic and personal growth so they are prepared to succeed in college and in life. Their mission is achieved by working in partnership with family, school and community; providing individual support, educational enrichment, and financial support to attend Catholic high school; and turning “students into scholars”.
Crossroads scholars build upon a foundation of academic excellence with thorough exploration of college and career opportunities and the steps that high school students must take to ensure success after graduation.
This emphasis on exposure and exploration enables scholars to survey a wide breadth of post-secondary options, connect with professionals and gain hands-on experience in their career fields of interest, and prepare for the transition to college and the professional workplace.
To date, over 500 students have graduated from Pittsburgh area Catholic schools with the assistance of the Crossroads Foundation. They go on to graduate from college at rates well above the national average. They enrich our communities and serve as examples of the power of education to interrupt the cycle of poverty.
