The new Peters Township High School project reached a milestone as construction began on the new $95 million high school designed by Hayes Design Group Architects and Weber Murphy Fox.  After many hours of planning and design over the last two years, HDG celebrated the official start of construction with other members of the Design Team, members of the District, and contractors at the July 19^th groundbreaking ceremony.

The new, state-of-the-art, 298,000 sq. ft. high school will be located in McMurray, Pennsylvania on a former golf course site in with rolling hills and a picturesque landscape.  The building will be three stories with each floor tiered into the landscape to preserve the natural conditions of the site.  The building form also reflects the character of the flowing site with curved roofs over the large assembly spaces.

The school’s 50 classrooms and three science labs surround a central two-story Learning Commons featuring areas for student collaboration and access to interactive technology.  Students will pass through and around the Learning Commons allowing them to experience the space many times throughout their day.

21st Century Learning concepts were incorporated throughout the building design and include interactive technology and moveable furniture to promote student collaboration.  The building will also feature art labs and a technology education suite equipped with a STEM room and a 3D printing room, a food court style cafeteria, a 1,200-seat modern performance auditorium, a multi-use competitive gymnasium with concourse access to the bleachers, and an eight-lane natatorium.

Construction of the project is anticipated to be complete in October 2020.
