Vote for the new Peters Township High School in the 2018 AIA Pittsburgh Design Awards Competition

AIA Pittsburgh’s Annual Design Awards Competition is on! Vote here for HDG and Weber Murphy Fox’s design for the Peters Township School District’s new High School to win a 2018 AIA Design Award! The project was submitted in the Design + Innovation (unbuilt) category, and we need your help to win a People’s Choice Award! Voting ends October 18th.

Why does this project deserve to win? Central to the community, the picturesque terrain of a former golf course and country club will provide a new home for the new high school. Key features of the project include maintaining views of the naturally sweeping terrain, connecting the school to the community through pedestrian paths, natural meadows and playing fields for shared use, connections between the natural and built environment, and a central, multi-story Learning Commons topped with a full skylight which provides a light well for all surrounding classrooms. The space serves as a collaborative and interactive learning hub where students can circulate around or through to experience the various areas of the academic community.

AIA Pittsburgh’s Design Awards is a juried design competition open to AIA members and firms whose principals are members of AIA Pittsburgh, as well as AIA members from across the country whose projects were located in the 11 county area. The mission of the awards is to recognize and honor architects and designers, and promote excellence, innovation, and achievement in the craft of architecture. Recent architecture projects can be entered for a variety of award categories, including the People’s Choice Award, which is chosen by popular vote.

The Design + Innovation Award category is for the wide range of work represented by innovative design elements in unbuilt, theoretical, research, and allied design projects. This is an open category to recognize unique, remarkable design and innovative work in the field of architecture or related fields of practice. Members of AIA Pittsburgh, and members of AIAS are eligible to enter this category.
